The life

Once you have enough, learn how to share in a way that gathers people.

Servant leadership is not a style of meeting. It is what you do after your own life is provisioned. High-effort culture is how you stay a person while you do it.

A parishioner is not a customer of the church and not a manager of other people’s souls. The rule is short enough to keep in a season.

A wooden oar in a boathouse, early light.
Athletic. The body tells the truth about effort. You cannot brand your way through a tide.
An empty reading room with one open book.
Intellectual and social meet at a table. Reading alone is not the whole of either.

This season

The season card

Name the three interests you will actually practice. Then say what “enough” is, and one way you will share that gathers rather than displays. It stays on this device. We do not collect it.

Against the counterfeit

The thing, not the mark

High-effort culture is how a free people restrains monopolists without worshipping an office. We prefer the object made to be repaired to the brand made to be replaced. A glittering mark that confuses the person and degrades the product is a kind of idolatry. A parish that becomes a lifestyle is the same error in a collar.

The old industrial bargain, at its best, was a material discipline: durable goods, a household that could be provisioned, a limit on spectacle. We are not nostalgic for its cruelties. We are unwilling to trade its honesty for a prettier story.

Servant leadership

Bring people together

Sharing can sort, or it can gather. Programs that divide the city into the metaphysically good and the materially guilty are not service. They are a court. The parish’s test is plainer: after you have enough, does your giving make a table more possible?

If you want to be known here, start with the six questions and a season you can actually keep. Then write a notice.
